SUMMERTIME AT OKEMO IS GOLF AND MUCH MORE

LUDLOW, Vt. – With its optimal location in south-central Vermont, Okemo Mountain Resort and the Jackson Gore Inn serve as a perfect summer vacation hub. In addition to numerous popular attractions and recreational offerings in the area, Okemo offers plenty of on-site activity to keep a family happy for days. Two championship 18-hole golf courses serve as the crown jewels of summertime recreation, but non-golfers find the Jackson Gore Inn and all of its amenities reason enough to stay put.

The Ice House, a multi-functional, year-round sports arena, is a covered steel structure, housing two tennis courts, a basketball court and a single-lane jogging track. In winter, a 115 x 215 foot skating rink replaces the courts.

For fitness enthusiasts who prefer an indoor aerobic workout or some poolside fun, Okemo recently debuted The Spring House at Jackson Gore. The resort’s new source for relaxation and rejuvenation is a two-level, 18,000-square-foot fitness and aquatic center featuring a recreational swimming pool with lap lanes for designated swim times, a children’s pool with a whimsical frog slide and numerous splash and water fountain features, and a five-person hot tub. The facility houses locker rooms, a sauna, a large studio for fitness classes, a cardio and weight room, and a racquetball court.

Within the walls of the Jackson Gore Inn, guests may schedule a massage or other spa services. Adjacent to the spa is an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, hot tubs and wading pool.

Outside the inn, a vast mountain calls to the adventurer and explorer. A lush lawn in the Jackson Gore Inn courtyard makes the perfect location for a game of tag or for tossing a Frisbee. On Friday evenings throughout the summer, the courtyard is transformed into a concert venue. Lawn chairs and picnic blankets dot the lawn while the aroma of a traditional barbecue and the music of a live band fill the air. Beyond the grassy expanse, wide open ski trails serve as hiking or mountain biking trails that lead to the summit of Okemo Mountain.

Introduced last summer, the Maples at Okemo is the resort's latest addition to its menu of summer fun. The nine hole disc golf course is located at the base of the mountain behind the Jackson Gore Inn, providing scenic vistas as players make their way around the course designed with a maple sugaring theme Disc golf is a game for all ages and all abilities that is played in the same way as regular golf using a disc, or set of discs, similar to a Frisbee instead of clubs and a ball. The object is to get the disc from tee (the starting area) to hole (a large bucket) in the fewest number of throws.

A variety of organized programs are offered for families to enjoy the outdoors with a Jackson Gore Inn staff member. Overnight guests are encouraged to check with the hotel concierge to learn about guided hikes, stargazing, naturalist programs and other activities scheduled during their stay.
