2009 Leagues and Tournaments

WILLIE DUNN'S CUP TOURNAMENT RESULTS

On Sunday, Oct. 4, Okemo Valley Golf Club hosted its annual Willie Dunn's Cup Golf Tournament. The format was a team-of-two, best-ball net. The Men's Division was won by the tandem of Mike O'Neil and Tom Koch with a score of 65.  Second place went to Steve Birge and Doug Wiegers, who shot a 67.  Third place went to Andy and Zenon Bishop with a 68. The well-represented Mixed Division (16 teams), was won by Darlene Remy and David Higley. They shot a 61. Second place went to John and Marion Pick with a score of 64. Peg Cariddi and Ken Tedford took third place with a 65 and fourth place went to Harriet Parot and Jack Collins with a 65. Fifth place went to Ted and Cheryl Stryhas with 65.

Closest to the pin winners were Martha Damone on No. 8 and Jay Girouard on No. 4. 

OVGC INVITATIONAL RESULTS

On Sept. 12 and 13, Okemo Valley Golf Club hosted its annual Men's Invitational Tournament. Flights were made up of six teams and each team played every other team within their flight in a nine-hole match play match. The flight winners then participated in a two-hole shootout to determine the Invitational Champions. This year's overall Champions were Bob Higgins and partner Larry Plumb. They defeated the teams of Roger Danyew and Mark Kattalia, and Glenn Tatangelo and Michael Niedermeier.

Flight Winners
First Flight: Mark Kattalia and Roger Danyew, 28 points; Tim Reynolds and Frank Reed, 24.5 points.

Second Flight: Glenn Tatangelo and Michael Neidermeier, 24.5 points; Ken Tedford and Blaise Berthiaume, 24 points.

Third Flight: Bob Higgins and Larry Plumb, 28.5 points; Art O'Hare &and Terry Wilcox, 27 points.

Closest to the pin winners were Tom Koch on the fourth hole;  Marty Cinningham on the sixth hole;
Bob Higgins on the eighth hole; Jeff Willard on the fourteenth hole; Glenn Tatangelo on the seventeenth hole.

 Aug. 12 Men's Member Tournament

On Wednesday August 12th, Okemo Valley Golf club hosted there annual Men's Member Three Guest Golf Tournament. The golf course and the bar-b-q as usual were fantastic, and the scores reflected a marvelous but challenging set-up. The team of John Pick/Bruce Blanch/Ray Beyette and Rob Delbianco shot a 65 to grab the low gross honors. Herb Eddy/ Patrick Eddy/Jim Rand and John Babcock combined for 55 to win low net. Second gross went Ted Stryhas/Kip Horton/Mike Morgan and Ron Mercier as they shot a 66. Second net went to Matt Tomaselli/Frank Piro/Jim Tomaselli and Jamie Wadlow as they shot a 56. Third gross went to Tim Reynolds/Tim Kangas/ Fred Koledo and Nick Menduni as they shot a 66. Third net went to Tim Reilly/Mark Sheffield/Phil Tierney and Kurt Gerrish as they shot a 58. Fourth net went to Larry Spaulding/Jon Conathan/ Tim Chapin and Toby Sanders as they shot a 59. Closest to the pin winners were Ken Tedford on the 8th hole and Bruce Blanch on the 17th hole. Long drive winners were Glenn Boggini on the 11th hole and Dan Tricarico on the 18th hole.

Annual Championship

Okemo Valley Golf Club's annual Championship Weekend was held August 22nd and 23rd.  The format for the weekend was individual stroke play for 36 holes. The Men's Division witnessed the defending champion Cole Skinner successfully defend his title as he defeated Chas Boggini in a sudden death playoff by draining a difficult six foot birdie putt. The Men's Senior division also had its defending champion repeat, as Rick Marasa held off Jack Collins and defend his title. The Ladies division was won for the first time by Hariet Parot, as she held off a host of challengers, and the Ladies Senior division was captured by Rita Krett.

 LADIES' LEAGUE SEASON FINALS

The Okemo Valley Golf Club Ladies' League wrapped up the season on Wednesday, Aug. 5.  With double points available for the Team-of-Four Scramble, there were plenty of opportunities for teams to move up in the final standings.  Pam Cruickshank, Donna Tedford, Janet Carini and Joan Kattalia, members of the RVCCC squad,came in first for the week with a score of 33.  Mary Lou Shaw, Alice Thayne, Jane Harrington and Lorraine Marino, of Coldwell Banker Watson Realty, placed second with a 35.  Nancy Eckert, Liz Spaulding, Linda West and Lois Brown, of M&M Excavating, took third place with a 36 and a match of cards.  Closest to the pin went to Joan Collar on No. 4;  Maria Tomaselli on No. 6; Liz Spaulding on No. 8. Pam Cruickshank won Longest Drive on No. 2.

The 2009 Ladies' League Champions are Pam Cruickshank, Donna Tedford, Janet Carini and Joan Kattalia. The RVCCC team completed a successful season with a total of 121 points.  Kathi Williams, Amy Taylor, Peg Cariddi and Pam Plumb from Ludlow Insurance took second place for the season with a total of 116 points.  Marion Pickielnok, Mary Rita Batesole, Martha Damone and Lisa Rourke of Id3 Designs finished third with 111 points.   Mary Lou Shaw, Alice Thayne, Jane Harrington and Lorraine Morino from Coldwell Banker Watson Realty came in fourth with 98 points.

 MEN'S LEAGUE FINAL RESULTS

The final week of July witnessed the season's final round of Okemo Valley Golf Club's Men's League. The final format was a team-of-four scramble, with double points up for grabs, allowing teams to make a big move up the leaderboard. The Stryhas Builders team made up of Ted Stryhas, Bob Higgins, Sonny Bragg and John Goffinet, won the evening with a score of 30, moving them from sixth place to third place overall. Sanderson Contracting finished second with a score of 30. The team of Paul Doyle, John Pick, Larry Plumb and Bob Ahlers, maintained their season position in first place and were crowned league champions. They will have their names engraved on the Commissioner Robinson Trophy. The Honey Dew Man squad missed a go-ahead birdie putt on the final green that would have put them in first place for both the evening and the season. Grabbing the third spot was the Ludlow Insurance team. Ron Bixby, Walt Spinrad, Charlie Dickerman and Stew Schmidt shot 30. Closest to the pin winners were Terry Thayne on the 6th and 8th hole, Walt Spinrad was the closest on the 4th hole.Roger Danyew was the long drive winner on the 2nd hole.
 
During the awards banquet, Larry Plumb was recognized as the recipient of the Stephen Carr Sportsman of the Year Award, Plumb's name will be engraved on the plaque that is proudly displayed in Willie Dunn's Grille.
